High Quality Motorcycle Helmet Always Keep you Safe.

6:17 AM

A helmet commonly refers to a kind of protective headgear usually used by motorcycle riders. The main aim of a helmet is to provide safety and safeguard the riders head in an accident. Nowadays advance helmets offer additional conveniences like, ventilation, face shields, ear protection and intercom.

One of my friend met with a fatal accident while he was driving on a narrow lane. Suddenly a dip in the road blocked his view of two small boy crossing the lane. While saving them he lost the control of his bike and hit an oncoming car. At the time of accident he was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries. He was in coma for a week and finally died. His life could have been saved if he had a helmet on his head.

A study conducted by National Highway Traffic Administration reveals that bike rider is 35% more likely to get hurt or even die while driving in comparison to the automobile driver. The helmet reduces the chances of a head injury and the resultant death to a considerable extent.

Helmets are widely acclaimed for considerably minimizing injuries and fatalities in case an accident occurs. Several countries have enacted laws that makes it mandatory for the motorcycle riders to wear a helmet.

There are several types of helmet available in the market and includes, full face, off-road/Motocross, modular/flip-up, open face and half helmet. Always wear a light colored helmet as it enhances the visibility to a considerable extent. According to a research white color helmets reduces the chance of an accident by 24%. The research further added that riders wearing reflective or fluorescent clothing reduces the chance of any mishap by 34%. Finally, everything depends upon you as you have to decide to what extent you want to be visible to other road users, while riding a bike.

Nowadays plastic is used in the construction of the helmets. Expensive and high quality helmets are strengthened with kevlar or carbon flier. Advance helmet possess both fabric and foam interiors for advanced comfort and security. Every helmet has a hard outer shell to avoid penetration of the helmet by a sharp object, which may puncture the skull. Utmost care is taken to provide structure to the inner liner to prevent disintegration when a person fells down on losing his control. This is important because the foams used have very little resistance to penetration and abrasion. A foam liner is also provided to crush during any collision which enhances the distance and time duration over which the head stops and minimize its speed.

Don't always go for the cheap one. For high quality, convenience and protection you need to shell out some additional bucks. After all, helmet design is all about the tolerable impact the head can handle.By buying a unique motorcycle helmet you can provide an attractive addition to your get up. Everyone will start noticing you and soon you will be popular among avid motorcycle riders.

Spine Protectors are a must!

6:17 AM

Crashing a bike is that horrible that all riders really want to avoid. Bikers generally think that if you have to position yourself just before an unseen and undesirable bike crash then either you have to try at most to avoid this disastrous situation or at least minimize its effects by wearing something protective.

Serious injuries also result when motorcyclists stop sliding and roll like a rag doll with their arms and legs sticking out or when they hit something solid, like trees, curbs and other road users. A high slide is another thing that can give biker hard and serious injuries. Mostly bike's crash happens in a split second that there is actually no time to react or do something about it. Hitting a tree or sliding in dirt is a lot more different than hitting another vehicle on road.

Ride safe, ride defensively and presume that every car around you is driven by someone not paying attention. Or whatever causes accident and injuries this surely is going to cause a lot of trouble to riders and that is the reason why motorcycle safety apparel is a must. Including apparel lists does include spine protectors for sure!

If you really want a safe ride or to minimize the harshest effects of any accidental collision, ask be sure to get protection i.e. spine protectors. Equipments and proper accessories are that matters the most after training for motorcycling.

Because of these factors of unpredictability regarding safe ride; it really is vital to wear your spine protector every time you ride, These spine protectors can also be used on street bikes, motocross, drag racing, and any other motor sports.

Spine protector can save riders from most whiplash injuries. These injuries are caused by the sudden and unexpected movement of the neck or head during a road accident. It affects the soft tissues of the neck and the cervical spine. Commonly whiplash injuries are associated with the bike accidents, caused by a sudden jerk to neck or head. The main reason for this is, because of the soft tissue in the neck and the cervical spine that is affected so easily. A cervical vertebra is connected directly to other soft tissues like ligaments and muscles. When the sudden or unexpected movement is occurred, the muscle and ligaments are affected and it follows the cervical vertebra as they are all connected together.

All of your worries will be taken care of, only if you grab a spine protector for yourself before over indulging our self in adventurous and dangerous riding and biking sports. Because these injuries give neck or back pain; neck stiffness, soreness, and finally it will quickly interfere in all your daily activities. Consequences of injuries to neck may vary from mild pain to severe damage and sometimes even lifelong disability which leads to restricted head movement, damage in cervical spine or forever lasting severe pain.

Protection is better than cure so why not be playing safe and enjoy the adventures yet to come in your life!! Best spine protectors with marked/approved CE protection are available at jackets4bikes

How to Care for Your Motorcycle after You Ride

6:17 AM

Regular maintenance of your motorcycle is necessary to ensure that it is in top shape every time you use it. That is why you have to check it after you take it for a ride. You have to schedule a regular monitoring after using your bike. It can be tiring to check it right after your trip. That is why it is better to rest first since you will not be able to check your motorcycle properly if you are thinking of your bed.

Using the T-CLOCS is the best way to check your motorcycle. This is an acronym provided by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation to help the riders check all the parts of their bike before they leave. It stands for tires, controls, lights, oils, chassis, and stands. You can use this checklist to check the motorcycle after you take it for a spin. This is necessary if you are going to use the motorcycle daily.

Here are some maintenance tips you should do after using your motorcycle:

1. After using your gears, you will take it off and clean it, right? You need to check the men's leather gloves for dirt and possible damage, the same with the other gears. If you do this to your gears, you need to do this to your bike as well. You have to clean it and check it for damages.

2. Follow the T-CLOCS checklist. It is important to check these parts especially if you have been from a rough trip. Check the chassis. Some portion of the frame can have damages from the rough road. Check the wires and cables as well. The trip can cause some of the parts and controls to loosen. Check the oil level as well.

3. If you are going to store your motorcycle for a long time, it is better to do a thorough check up on your motorcycle. If you are going to store it for the winter season, do the following:

a. Follow the T-CLOCS when storing your bike for the winter season. Check everything. Do the same when you prepare to ride it after the cold season is over.

b. Drain the oil from the motorcycle tank. This will prevent the liquid from changing to substances that can damage the internal metal of your oil tank. You can replace it with new oil.

c. Remove the battery from the motorcycle and store it in a warmer room. If you do not want to take your battery out, you can attach a battery tender. The battery tender will ensure that you will not overcharge your battery.

d. Covering your motorcycle is very important. Invest in high quality motorcycle cover. The cover will protect your motorcycle from external factors. In addition, it will keep your motorcycle warm.

Keep in mind that your motorcycle is your responsibility. All the gears that you use for riding are included. Aside from cleaning the men's leather chaps, jackets, boots, gloves, and helmet, you have to check your bike regularly as well. As what most riders say, if you take care of your bike, it will take care of you.

The Right Brakes for your Bike

6:16 AM

Whenever a person decides to buy a new motorbike or perhaps just improve the condition of their own, there are a great many things that can be purchased as upgrades. It can sometimes be hard to decide what to buy first. There is a natural reaction to buy the items and accessories that will look great, but this can sometimes mean overlooking some of the most important items that a bike, scooter or any sort of vehicle really needs. No matter how funky or classy the bike looks, if it is unable to stop efficiently when needed then it won't be a worth a thing. There is no doubt that safety has to be a massive consideration for all bikers and this puts a great emphasis on them to buy brakes.

Depending on what type of vehicle they have, how they drive and where they drive, there will be different sorts of brakes that are better suited to them so it is up to the consumer to do a level of research before purchasing and find out what type of brakes are best for them. Driving on rough terrain is ultimately very different from driving on wet surfaces and the needs and requirements being placed on brakes will be different for both surfaces. Most people will have a multi-purpose or general style of brakes which will be sufficient for the vast majority of driving but there are always people who would benefit from a more specific type and these people have to be aware of what would best suit their driving styles and preferences.

Therefore, a lot of thinking has to go into the decision to buy brakes and although the financial issue can't be the only factor in the process, it is inevitable that cost will come into the final choice. Thankfully, there are many great brake pads and products to suit all budgets and there is no need to think that saving money on brakes is creating a bigger risk than is necessary. Just like all industries and all other consumer goods, there is a wide variety of products to be found which will ensure there is something for everyone. A small financial saving may seem great at the time but you can't really put a price on personal safety; whilst it is wise to shop around in an attempt to get the best quality deal on brakes that money can buy, always make sure that the brakes are reliable.

When the decision is made to buy brakes, it is vital that the biker is fully aware of what types of brakes are compatible with the bike before they spend any money. This is important as it can save them money and inconvenience if the wrong brakes are purchased. More importantly the consequences involved with a bad decision when they buy brakes could prove to be massively negative and extremely dangerous. Fashion and flair are undeniably important features to consider in brakes, but functionality must never be overlooked.

Learning to ride a motorcycle

6:16 AM

How did you learn to ride? Well I was just checking out some information on how to learn to ride a motorcycle and I started thinking how did I learn to ride. I remembered my first ride it was on a little dirt bike that my buddy had and a bunch of us were hanging out in the woods and then he rode up with his bike everyone there had ridden before except me but they didnt know that. So he was letting everyone take turns and than it came to me and when I steped up for my turn my buddy asked if I knew what I was doing and I dont know why but I just said yes. I could have said no and I am sure he would of showed me but instead I said yes hopped on, did what I thought was correct and in about 30 seconds I was in bushes being laughed at. That was my first and last ride on his dirt bike. After that I really cant figure out how I learned, most of it was just trial and error which now as I am older I really dont think that was the best way to learn but I surrvived. As an adult I was required to take a basic riders saftey course and when I first found out I had to go I was totally against it, I had been riding for years what were they going to teach me. But I have to say I learned alot of stuff I never even thought about and the class was enjoyable, it is also a great idea if you get a new bike you can always take another class it gives you a chance to learn your new bike in a safer enviorment. Well some how I made it and have been riding for many years now If your thinking about riding dont start out like me and make sure you get a bike appropiate to your experiance level.

Motorcycle Riding - Safety Tips to Keep in Mind while Riding

6:16 AM

Safety should always be a major concern especially for motorcycle riders. Whether you are only a beginner or have been riding for ages, you should always be mindful of the things you need to keep in mind while riding a motorcycle. Motorcycle accessories such as motorcycle saddlebags are essential. So do not overlook these safety features. When you really want to make sure that you will be riding safely, here are a few tips you should keep in mind.

A well-fitted helmet is a significant part of any rider's gear. Make certain it fits you snugly and is comfortable enough while you are riding. One tip you can consider is to choose a helmet that starts above the eyebrow when it is on. This gear can prevent a huge number of injuries in many accidents. It can also reduce the risk of trauma. The rider is not only one who should wear a helmet. People who ride with you should also wear one.

To better protect your body it is recommended that you wear appropriate clothing when riding. Motorcycle pants, jackets, boots are only some of the apparel that you need to purchase. As this motorcycle apparel comes in many styles, design sand fabrics, it is important that you take your time in choosing them. Make sure they offer maximum protection as well as look good on you. Investing in a good pair of boots is also a wise idea. This will cover your ankles and protect you from any impact from crash.

Apparel that provides good visibility is beneficial. Wearing something bright is a good idea especially when you are riding at night. This will ensure you that other motorists will take notice of you while you are riding.

Organize everything if you plan to take a trip with your bike. Never simply carry a bag strapped to your body and tie it to your motorcycle. There might be a chance that your things will be detached and fly over the highway as you ride. The worst part is that these things can even be entangled and cause you to crash. Therefore, it is important you invest in large sturdy motorcycle saddlebags that can keep everything in place and safe.

Some motorcycles do not have windshields so you must find ways to protect your eyes when riding. This is important because dirt, insects and rocks might fly towards you and cause you to loose your focus on driving. This will increase the risk of accidents. Goggles can be the solution. Find one that is made out of shatter-proof materials. Good ventilation is another factor you should consider. Choose a goggle that can keep your breath from fogging up.

Good leather gloves can be quite useful to keep your grip on the motorcycle handles no matter how cold or hot it gets. Purchase one that offers great leather grip.

Riding a motorcycle carries a lot more risk than sitting behind the wheel of a car. If you apply some of the simple strategies above you can surely reduce that risk significantly.

Benefit of Buying a Used Dirt Bike over New

6:16 AM

How many of us dream about our very own dirt bike? In today's world of constant stress we all need to take time and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Riding one of our used dirt bikes might just give you this much needed thrill. Just imagine racing down the back roads on your very own dirt bike. What many people seem to forget is that when you ride a dirt bike the chances of crashing are quite high, but is this not part of the thrill of racing? This is why many people these days opt for used bikes.

Not only are used bikes easier to fix because parts are generally cheaper, but they have already had most of their kinks worked out and ride easy. So when you're in the market for a new bike make sure to check out the dirt bike classifieds. This will save you much money especially if you are new to racing. This is because when you start out on the racing circuit there are many fees and starter costs to worry about, and until you start winning some money you will need to keep your budget as low as possible because you will be breaking down and banging up. And when you buy new the parts will in many cases cost you more in the short term than the bike did in the first place.

However, one of the biggest benefits of buying used dirt bikes for sale at the moment rather than new is the affordability factor. As mentioned above they are easier and cheaper to fix, but they are also cheaper to buy. But these points have never been as important as they are today. With such a rough global recession the need for cheap dirt bikes has never been more prominent. No one has a lot of money to spend on 'toys' but they still want them. Going used now will mean that you will find the most unbeatable deals because people need the money and are selling everything they have to get it.

But perhaps you are not into racing but are looking for a way to let go on weekends and have fun with your friends. There is no better way to do this than with one of your cheap dirt bikes. You can very easily load it up and take it to the mountains on the weekend and fly through the back trails. There is nothing like the feeling of tearing down a mountain trail on your bike. And because they are so much cheaper you can easily get your friends to get into buying them as well. Now you can all go out camping for the whole weekend and have a riding party. However, if you were to buy new you wouldn't even have enough money left over to use your new bike. So look for your used dirt bike for sale on the classified ads today and have a much more fun and relaxed workday on Monday.

Tips On Choosing Leather Motorcycle Jackets

6:17 AM

It's hard to find the right leather motorcycle jackets; there are a nearly endless number of choices. There are a few things to look out for when you're shopping for a jacket, however. Quality should be your number one consideration - you want to buy a jacket which will last you a long time; a good quality leather motorcycle jacket costs a little more, but it will pay for itself many times over in terms of how long you use it.

The higher the quality of the jacket, the safer and more comfortable it will be to wear on your rides. Don't let a larger price tag deter you - it's important to get the best when you're buying leather motorcycle jackets. Think of this as an investment in your motorcycle riding. After safety and comfort, storage is another important consideration when looking for a jacket.

Storage really is important - there's nowhere to keep things on a motorcycle, so you'll want to have all of the zippered pockets for storage that you can get. The three important factors of safety, comfort and storage make full jackets the most popular type of leather motorcycle jacket.

Every motorcyclist needs a full jacket to protect his- or herself as they ride. These jackets protect your whole torso and your arms from inclement weather, debris and in a crash, they can be invaluable. A full jacket is an absolute must.

You can also choose vests (some motorcyclists refer to these as half jackets). While vests are indeed quite comfortable, they can't give you the kind of protection that full leather motorcycle jackets will. A full jacket which is the right size for you and is made of high quality leather however, will be very comfortable too. Remember, a vest will leave your arms exposed to the elements and the risk of injury if you get into an accident.

There is far more than looks to choosing motorcycle riding gear. You should be more concerned with finding leather clothing which provides protection and comfort before you think about how it looks. However, some brands and styles are more popular with bikers than are others and the reason for this is almost always because of its quality; sure looks matter, but safety comes first when you ride.

Your leather motorcycle clothing is intended to provide protection and comfort to you while you ride, so make sure that you choose carefully. Have yourself measured to make sure that you are getting the right fit from your leathers and don't be shy about asking the shop owner and staff questions - they will know a lot about the subject and can be extremely helpful to you as you decide.

You should always listen to what they have to say and be sure to try on lots of jackets before you decide. Just keep quality in mind and be sure to listen to the advice offered by the experts.

Is Synthetic Motorcycle Oil Worth It?

6:16 AM

You know the drill, every six months, three thousand miles (or so) you trudge in to your mechanic or auto parts store to get an oil change. Whether you change your oil yourself of have a mechanic so it chances are you have wondered if synthetic motorcycle oil is worth the extra cost.

Many people swear by synthetic motorcycle oil, and others stick to conventional oil because of habit or price, and while no one choice is best for every person and every motorcycle there are some definite advantages to synthetic motorcycle oil you may not have considered.

One of the first considerations when deciding between synthetic motorcycle oil and conventional oil is how often you will have to change your motor oil. If you use conventional oil and change it at the recommended intervals consistently, your motorcycle probably will not suffer any ill effects. However, if you often go much longer than the recommended interval before changing conventional oil your motorcycle may suffer because if it. Synthetic motorcycle oil can keep your motorcycle protected longer than conventional oil and this is one of the advantages.

Synthetic motorcycle oil takes longer to break down than conventional oil which makes it last longer between changes. If you change your oil regularly conventional oil will not have time to break down but if you don't, synthetic oil may be a better choice for you because you can go longer between changes without worrying about damage to your engine. Synthetic motorcycle oil will provide adequate lubrication longer than the normal three thousand miles that conventional oil provides.

Because synthetic oil lasts longer it can also offer one more advantage over conventional oil in the long run, and that is price. While synthetic oil costs more than conventional oil so you will pay more per change, the fact that you can go twice as long or even more between changes means that you will be paying less over the life of your car if you go with synthetic oil. The price savings and longer performance are what influences many people to use synthetic motorcycle oil.

Changing your oil, no matter what type you use, is an important part of your motorcycle's maintenance. Oil lubricates your engine and also contains abrasive soil which must be removed at regular intervals to keep your bike running in top condition. If these advantages are important to you then synthetic motorcycle oil is the best choice for you.

Eco-Friendly Advantages and Options for Motorcycles

6:16 AM

Motorcycles get roughly double the amount of gas mileage of a typical car. Does that mean that motorcycles are an eco-friendly option? The answer isn't exactly clear cut. Read on to find out more:

Gas Mileage

While motorcycles do have a significant advantage in terms of gas mileage, the fact is that they are not as eco-friendly as you might think. The regulations regarding emissions standards are not very strict. The fact is, motorcycles are responsible for nearly 15 times more pollution per mile than most other vehicles. This is an astonishing number. US motorcycle makers are simply not required to make their engines be very clean and efficient. In Europe, the situation is slightly better, but still not very good. Until stricter laws force motorcycle manufacturers to adhere to tougher pollution standards, motorcycles are not a truly green choice.

All is not lost, however, as new models of motorcycles are in development that include an idling stop system that should reduce fuel consumption as well as emissions simply by turning off the engine instead of idling when stopped or stuck in traffic and other situations.

Hydrogen Powered Motorcycles

A UK company has developed the first motorcycles that will be powered by fuel cells. The motorcycles run on detachable hydrogen powered fuel cells, which will be virtually noiseless and reduce power consumption. These motorcycles can run for up to 4 hours or 100 miles without the need to refuel and should be available soon in Europe.

Electric Motorcycles

Motorcycles that are powered by electricity are also now an option. It is now possible to find instructions online to build your own electric motorcycle. For those without a do it yourself mentality, there is now the Enertia, an electric motorcycle made by Brammo. The Enertia apparently gets a stunning estimated 279 miles per gallon and emissions are a tiny fraction of other eco-friendly vehicles such as the Toyota Prius or Tesla Roadster. It looks pretty slick too!

Green Motorcycle Accessories

Let's say you love motorcycles but still want to make some eco-friendly choices as far as accessories? That's possible too. When selecting your apparel such as t-shirts, jackets and gloves, look for products made of recycled, sustainable or organic materials, textiles and fabrics. In addition, a company in Switzerland is now collecting old DVD's and CD's to be recycled and used to make motorcycle helmets. Made from a polycarbonate plastic, the DVD's and CD's are known for their strength and impact resistance, as well as their optical quality. Finally, a great use for those old AOL CD's! Don't forget to switch out that disposable plastic water bottle with a reusable, stronger and endlessly refillable aluminum bottle to keep you hydrated during those long motorcycle rides.

Why You Should Avoid a Used Motorbike Helmet

6:17 AM

Wearing a motorbike helmet is an extremely important safety measure in case you suffer an accident while riding your motorcycle. It can prevent serious head injuries, many of which are potentially fatal. Many state governments have enacted laws requiring motorcycle riders to wear helmets to reduce the number of preventable motorcycle accident injuries and fatalities.

Sadly, many motorcycle riders dismiss the importance of wearing a motorbike helmet. They may believe it is to clunky or heavy, or they simply enjoy the feeling of the wind on their faces as they ride their motorcycle. Failure to use a helmet can result in serious injury in case of an accident.

While a motorbike helmet isn't phenomenally expensive, it's also not cheap. Many motorcycle riders make the mistake of budgeting all of their money toward buying a bike, without leaving room for necessary safety equipment. To save money, some riders decide to buy a used helmet. This is a dangerous practice that should be strongly discouraged.

It's dangerous to wear a used helmet, since you don't know whether it's been in a prior accident, or how old it is. These factors affect whether it will provide adequate protection in case of an accident. Helmets are made of a hard outer shell with a layer of expanded polystyrene beneath that is meant to cushion the impact of a fall. If a used motorbike helmet has already been in accident, this means that the polystyrene layer has probably already been compressed, making the helmet ineffective and useless in case of an accident.

It's important to realize that polystyrene weakens and becomes brittle over time. Once this occurs, it will no longer be able to absorb the shock of an impact if an accident happens. Polystyrene is also weakened by exposure to sunlight and certain chemicals, including gas vapors. For these reasons, it's important to buy a new motorbike helmet every couple of years.

Bikers who put their helmet near the gas tank are unintentionally damaging their helmets. Helmets should also be kept out of direct sunlight when not in use to minimize their exposure to the sun; park your bike in shaded areas whenever possible. Pointed objects may pierce the polystyrene layer of your motorbike helmet and reduce its lifespan; avoid hanging the helmet on an antenna or other pointed object. By taking these steps to protect your helmet, you'll prevent early wear and tear and maximize the protection it provides.

Choose your Motorcycle Jacket Wisely

6:17 AM

Most riders tend not to pay much attention to the motorcycle jacket they are buying. It is a common mistake to make. If you have a proper motorcycle jacket, you will be safer and more comfortable while riding a motorcycle.

There are many reasons why choosing the right motorcycle jacket is important. First of all, it increases your safety. This may be new information to some, but it is true. Of course, jackets do nothing to save you from head on collisions. But they will protect you from daily abrasions of riding a bike and will make your ride more comfortable. Also, if you do have the misfortune of an accident, the jacket will prevent your skin from getting shredded to the bone. The tough material of the jacket will take most of the damage before exposing your skin.

So a thin, cheap material will not serve you well. You need something strong and lasting for your motorcycle jacket. So never settle for jackets that feel flimsy and inadequate. Do not make compromises with your health and safety on the road.

But this does not mean that the jacket will be very heavy. Not at all. A heavy jacket will add to your fatigue when you are on long journeys. It will only weigh you down. Proper motor cycle jackets are strong but light. Also heavy jackets will make you sweat more on the road. Think of wearing a heavy jacket on a hot day! Motorcycle jackets are meant to be worn in all seasons. So they should be suitable for wearing all around the year, no matter how hot or cold it is outside.

Motorcycle jackets have vents in them for letting air pass through and cool the rider on hot days. These are very useful but if they can't be closed, they will be a unusable on cold days when you need to stop the cold air from entering the jacket. Make sure that the jacket has arrangements for properly closing the vents when they need to be closed.

To make sure of getting a proper motorcycle jacket, you have to look at very minute details. The cut of the material, the stitching, the positioning of the vents and the elastics etc. Men and women both need to pay close attention to what they are buying and how it fits them. This also applies to accessories.
A normal women's motorcycle jacket will have buttons and locks and zippers just for looks. But a motorcycle jacket will not. It will be manufactured for the sole purpose of wearing during a motorcycle ride.

Of course, all this doesn't mean that you have to forget about style. That is not possible because no one wants to go out looking like an overstuffed turkey on thanksgiving. Far from it. So make sure that the jacket looks as good as it feels. After all, it is also very important to look great when you ride out in style on your mighty steel stallion.

Now you know what to look for when buying men's and women's motorcycle jacket. Make sure to get one that you absolutely like and have a great time riding!

How to Properly Take Care of Leather Motorcycle Saddlebags

6:17 AM

There are various kinds of leather saddlebags. The three major categories used to classify the leather used for making saddlebags are split, vegetable and chrome leather motorcycle saddlebags. Although they are very different from each other, the method used for taking care of them is very similar.

Like any other object, proper care and maintenance is needed for leather saddlebags to last. Below is a step by step guide in cleaning them.

Step 1:

You must start cleaning your saddlebags in a well-ventilated area. This is a wise idea because you will be using dangerous chemicals which are included in the cleaning solutions. If you can, do your cleaning outdoors where there is enough sunlight. It will also be best if you use a mild cleaning solution as to not deteriorate the quality and color of the saddlebag. You can also add water to the cleaning solution to dilute it. To ensure that the cleaning solution that you will be using is ideal for your leather saddlebag, try it by cleaning the back of the saddlebag first and see the results.

Step 2:

Conditioning is the next step in taking care of your saddlebags. This method does not have to be done all the time. You can do this every two weeks. The process of conditioning will involve lubricating the saddlebags. This will maintain the flexibility and softness of the bag. You should avoid using petroleum products because this can ruin the leather.

Step 3:

The third step is to polish your saddlebags. This will help it look brand new. Just remember not to overdo it because you can clog the pours of the leather. You should also avoid using petroleum products that can ruin the leather overtime rather than making it last. Use conditioners instead that can actually penetrate the fibers. When polishing the motorcycle saddlebags, make sure that you spread the cream evenly and thinly in every part. Polishing is done to make your saddlebags stand out and look more attractive.

Step 4:

The last stage is to use a water protector to avoid watermarks from being left on the surface by rain. This can block the water from being absorbed in the leather that can possibly damage it. This is done through applying a mink oil or silicone spray. This can also help the saddlebags look cleaner for a longer period of time.

Just remember never to place the saddlebags in front of a heated zone to dry because this will cause the oil be absorbed in the bag and dry out. You can also use saddlebag rain covers which are very useful if you are planning to travel long miles.

Leather saddlebags are useful equipment that you can use to organize and store your things effectively. Because they are very beneficial for motorcycle riders, it is essential that you spend some time in taking care of them appropriately. All it needs is a little time and effort on your part to ensure that these will last for a long time. By going through the four steps above, you can safely take care of your saddlebags so it can also take care of your stuff.

Finding The Right Motorbike Helmet

6:17 AM

You have spent a lot of time already doing your research into the right motorbike helmet along with other important gear. However, you now need to go look at some motorbike helmets in person; this is the most important protective gear for every rider. Since this will protect your head from injury in the event of an accident, the importance of wearing a good motorbike helmet cannot be stressed enough. It's shocking that people will spend thousands on their motorbike, yet cheap out on a helmet in an attempt to save money. A good quality helmet is more than worth the price, so remember that as you shop.

What you shouldn't do is buy a helmet just because you like the way it looks. You need a motorbike helmet which protects your head while you ride - safety should always be the first thing on your mind.

- Size Does Matter
Bigger doesn't always mean better when it comes to choosing the right motorbike helmet. Your helmet should fit snugly and be comfortable to wear. When trying on helmets put them on and tighten the chinstraps. Next, try moving the helmet. If it shifts around on your head easily, then it's not the right size. Having a good fit means a safer helmet, so take your time and try on lots of helmets before deciding on the right size.

- Safety First
The back of the helmet should feature a DOT and ideally a SNELL sticker as well. These safety certifications let you know that this helmet has been safety-tested. The SNELL sticker denotes rigorous standardized testing - DOT certification goes on the honor system, so look for both stickers.

- Type of Helmet
There are several different types of motorbike helmet, some offering more protection than others. There are full face helmets, motocross helmets, shorty helmets and open face helmets. The safest of all is the full face helmet; some riders do prefer open face or shorty helmets, but keep in mind that these will not protect your face if you get into an accident.

- Anti-Scratch and Anti-Fog
There is an ever increasing number of helmet makers who are producing helmets with visors that feature scratch resistance and anti-fogging features. You should definitely seek out a helmet which includes these or consider purchasing an aftermarket visor which does. Anti-fogging is a great safety feature - after all, the last thing you need while on the road is reduced vision because your visor is fogging up! There are also anti-fog sprays and anti-fog film which you can place in your visor.

- Ventilation
Every helmet should have adequate ventilation so that you don't have to ride while dripping with sweat. There is a tradeoff between ventilation and noise levels while you ride, however - the more vents, the louder things will be. Aerodynamic helmets will be quieter though and there are even helmets where you can open and close the vents as needed. Earplugs are also an option if you need less noise but more ventilation in your motorbike helmet.

- Straps
Good chinstraps help to make a proper fit. Make sure that your chinstraps are easy to adjust and can be locked to your rear trunk for easy helmet storage.

- Inner Liner
Your helmet's inner lining should be comfortable the first time you try it on. Remember that the lining will become more comfortable with wear, but you're better off riding in comfort the very first time you wear your new motorbike helmet.

- Design
Not that looking cool isn't important, but safety should always come first in considering motorbike helmets. The choice of design is entirely up to you - only you can say for sure what looks good on you and more importantly, feels good. Some of the brands to look for are Scorpion, Joe Rocket, AGV, Icon and Shoei, all of which provide you with the protection you need and are available in a range of style to suit every rider regardless of his or her tastes.

General Motorcycle Safety Tips and Information

6:17 AM

Riding a motorcycle can be a lot of fun but it can also be dangerous. Motorcycles represent 2.5% of all registered vehicles but 11.3% of traffic deaths. In 2006, motorcycles accounted for over 4,800 fatalities and 88,000 injuries in the United States. Specifically in Virginia, there were 2,601 motorcycle crashes which resulted in 126 motorcycle operator deaths and 2,284 occupant injuries in 2007.

Follow these safety tips in order to have a safe ride.

  • Wear bright or reflective clothing to maximize your visibility at night.

  • Wear a DOT, ANSI, OR Snell-approved helmet which are designed with hard outer shells and a retention system to protect the head and the brain in a variety of impacts. In 2006, 41% of those killed in crashes were not wearing a helmet.

  • If your helmet is not equipped with a face shield, wear goggles or glasses with plastic lenses to protect your eyes against insects, wind, dirt, rocks, or other airborne matter.

  • Wear elbow and knee pads.

  • Wear slip-resistant shoes and avoid wearing sandals, flip-flops or shoes with laces.

  • Ride with the flow of traffic.

  • Obey the speed limits and never travel faster than your skill level or than the conditions allow.

  • Know how to use hand signals and signal well before you make a turn or lane change.

  • Use extra caution at intersections, parking lot entrances and exits, and driveways.

  • Avoid hitting road hazards, such as sharp bumps and holes in the road surface. These hazards can cause loss of control or damage.

  • Be especially conscious of traffic from behind.

  • Check with your DMV to find out where local safety classes are being held.

  • Get licensed. In Virginia, you must hold a valid class M endorsement on your driver license.

  • Register your motorcycle. In Virginia, you must have a VA title, registration card, and license plate.

  • Wear durable, non-slip gloves which provide firm grips on the controls along with long pants and a long-sleeved shirt or jacket.

  • Learn how to use both front and rear brakes.

  • Learn how to properly downshift through the gears as you slow down or stop.

  • Pass vehicles with extreme care.

  • Keep your headlights on both day and night.

  • Reduce your speed when riding over bumpy roads.

  • Check your mirrors and blind spots frequently.

  • Use caution when riding in bus traffic and watch out for buses pulling to and from curbs and passengers getting on and off buses.

  • Do not block sidewalks, handicap and building accesses, or emergency drives when parking your motorcycle.

You should follow all of these general tips, but keep in mind that this checklist is not completely exhaustive and you should check with your state DMV for state specific rules.

Tips for Beginning Motorcycle Riders

6:17 AM

Thinking about getting on a motorcycle for the first time? Maybe you always had a fantasy where you are riding down the road with the wind in your face? It's never too late to make that dream come true, but a beginning motorcycle rider should take some precautions and take the time to learn about their new hobby first. Here are some tips for the beginning motorcycle rider, to stay safe and have fun at the same time:

Picking a Motorcycle

It's crucial to select the right motorcycle for your needs and desires. Do you want a motorcycle built for speed or maybe you just want a motorcycle that allows you to cruise down the road at your leisure? Maybe you just want to save money on gas and get from point A to point B quickly? It's important to decide exactly what you want out of the experience and then research different makes and models for your purposes. It may also be helpful to visit local dealers and ask them for recommendations for bikes.

Lessons

So you've driven a car for 30 years, does that mean you can jump on a bike for the first time, instantly know what you're doing and be a safe motorcyclist? Highly unlikely. If you have never ridden a bike before, it's essential to take a motorcycle safety course. Taking a course can drastically reduce the chances of having an accident on your bike. It's certainly worth the time and money to invest in taking a safety course for everyone who may ride your bike. You may also consider getting a book to help you brush up on basic motorcycle safety and riding rules.

Practice

Once you have learned the basics of motorcycle safety, it's important to practice riding first. Whether in your driveway, down a little used street or alleyway, try to practice steering the bike, leaning, using turn signals, the brakes, using the mirrors, stopping and any other controls. Honk the horn a few times. Sit on the bike a while and get comfortable before turning the key. On your first ride, be cautious as you may be prone to falling. Whether or not you choose to learn motorcycle safety, take a course or learn from a book or instructor, putting some time into getting familiar with your bike and practicing basic procedures is a smart thing to do.

Safety Equipment

Choosing the right safety equipment and accessories is also essential. A helmet should be your first priority. A good helmet will be comfortable but still protect your head in an accident. For first time riders, also consider extra padding, including padding for the knees. Goggles are also important, a good pair of goggles are important for glare reduction, protection of your eyes in all weather situations and for protection from flying debris like pebbles, rocks, dirt and bugs. Other accessories should include gloves and a jacket. Another safety tip for beginning riders is to stick out by choosing bright colored clothing and a helmet. Whether it's a white, orange, red or neon helmet, your chances of being in an accident go down quite a bit by just making this choice.

Finding The Best Motorcycle Leathers For You

6:17 AM

When looking for motorcycle leathers, there are simply so many different choices that it's understandable that you may feel overwhelmed. With so many styles and features available, it can be hard to figure out which one of the many leathers is best for you. We all have our own criteria for selecting a jacket, but there are a few good rules of thumb which can help you to find the perfect jacket for your needs.

The first thing to think about is whether you'd like protective padding. Many riders like to have this kind of added protection in their jackets. There are different types of padding available, made from different materials. You'll want to choose a jacket with the best possible padding, since protection is what a motorcycle jacket is really all about.

The look of your motorcycle leathers should be your second concern. You can choose styles which are classic and timeless, contemporary styles and ones which have a look which is all their own - there are also a lot of different color choices, so try out some different ones. This is entirely a matter of personal choice and you'll need to find out what looks best on you. Try on as many jackets as you need to find the perfect one for you.

You'll want a jacket which is made from the highest quality leather. Softer leather is best, since it will still provide you with protection while being comfortable and not restricting your movement. You should not choose any leather which makes it difficult for you to move easily as you ride.

If you're looking for vintage motorcycle leathers, you'll want to be sure that the leather is in good shape and has had good care taken of it by its previous owner. Leather can last a very long time, but does need to be properly cared for. Keep your leather clean and conditioned as needed to make sure that it stays in good shape. You'll need to store your leather properly as well - keep it out of direct sun and protected from extreme heat and cold.

You can even shop online for motorcycle leathers. There are a lot of different choices available from online stores, so you can get a good idea of styles which will work well for you. Even if you don't intend to buy online, you can get a sense of what you're looking for. If you do buy online, however, you can get a great deal as long as you shop around.

It all comes down to personal choice in the end. The right leathers for you are the ones which make you feel comfortable and give you the protection you need while you're riding. If you're serious about your riding, then you'll want to get nothing less than the best leathers on the market. If you can't find the perfect motorcycle leathers in the shops, then you may want to have them custom made to make sure that they are just right for you.

Choose the one that suits the way that you ride and you will be happier with your purchase.

One way to get perfect leather sport motorcycle jackets is to have it custom made just for you. A custom leather is one that is designed for you, made of the materials that you want and in the style and color that you choose before it is made. It is the ideal way to get the motorcycle jacket that you want. You should expect to pay a little more for a custom motorcycle, but the fit and style will be well worth the extra cost.

Trying on the jackets that you choose is a good way to find out how the jacket is going to look on you when you are riding. Make sure that the jacket is comfortable and moves with you instead of restricting your movement. A leather jacket should be soft and supple.

Safety precautions are something that you should be looking for in your jacket. Ventilation is something that you should consider if you will be riding in the hot sun. Leather can be very hot and a good ventilation method will make sure that you are comfortable in your leather.

The right jacket for you is the one that makes you feel good while you are wearing it. Don't let anyone tell you the style that you should be wearing. It is all up to you and the style that you choose should suit your personality and only yours. Wearing your leather jacket and riding your motorcycle are something to be enjoyed and your jacket should enhance the experience and not detract from it.

Don't make any decisions hastily when you are shopping for your leather sport motorcycle jackets. A jacket can be an expensive purchase so make sure that it is what you want. You will be much happier if you buy the item that will suit your personality while you are riding.

Which Motorcycle Leather Vests Look Best On You?

6:17 AM

Learning how to choose good motorcycle leather vests is something that you should learn if you want to ride in style, but you'd be surprised how few people know how to do this! There are lots of choices out there for you to make when you are thinking about motorcycle leather vests, and you may be feeling a little bit bewildered at the choices that you have in front of you. Instead of being confused, just remember to keep a few things in mind and make sure that you find the vest that gives you the best fit and the most style.

The first thing that you should keep in mind is the fit. If at all possible, look for motorcycle leather vests at a place where you can browse and try them on. While there are lots of places to purchase online, you won't be able to try on the vest and to make sure that you can move in it.

Remember that when you are going to be on a bike that being able to move is one of the top advantages that a leather vest can give you. Don't give you movement for decoration. There are lots of vests out there with silver snaps and buckles, and these can really get in the way of you moving the way that you need to.

The next thing that you should keep in mind is what you need from it in terms of leather. Once again, you are going to find that you have a number of different options in front of you. Whether you want something that is as slick as glass or as soft as butter, you'll find that you are in a great place. There is a lot of variety here, so simply look around for what is appealing to you.

What is good to touch, and what do you like the idea of wearing? No matter what vest you choose, make sure that you look at vests that specifically unsealed leather. When you purchase vests that are not sealed, you will find that the leather actually breathes, which can make riding in the summer a lot easier.

When you want to choose a vest that looks good on you, you should head to the store wearing the clothes that you wear riding. This will give you a good idea of the bulk that you are going to have in the vest and it will make sure that you don't need to squeeze into the vest when you actually get on your bike or that you will have the vest hanging loose on you! Look at the tailoring.

Are the seams double stitched, and does everything look solid? If you see a lot of loose edges, you may want to be in a place where you can give it a pass. Take some time and really consider what your options are going to be. Consider what motorcycle leather vests look best on you through taking your time and shopping around.
