A Review of the Most Popular One Piece Motorcycle Leathers

Even though one-piece motorcycle leathers are not what a lot of us wear while out riding, they still come to mind when we think about riding gear. This may be because most of us have seen Moto competitions, where all the contestants are wearing them. Whatever the reason, one piece leathers have become an important aspect of riding gear.

Most one-piece motorcycle leathers are worn in competition and shows by racers and riders performing tricks. Some of the reasons for this are obvious. The biggest reason is that one-piece leathers are more likely to protect the rider in the event of an accident. Since these riders are usually going at high speeds, if they do crash, there is little time to react. Knowing that their suit covers every inch of them can provide peace-of-mind.

But one-piece leathers are not reserved for these professional riders. More and more people are discovering that one-piece motorcycle leathers have benefits for everyday riders as well. It is rare to see an American rider in one of these suits, but many motorcycle enthusiasts in Europe already wear them on a regular basis.

There are many suits and styles to choose from, and you should be picky when looking for one. Since everything is one piece, you will have some new challenges when sizing yourself. You have to make sure the chest width, arm length, torso length, and legs all fit. This can be tricky, but you'll find one.

Keep in mind that every company sizes their suits differently. Just like other clothes, two suits from two companies will fit you, but they may claim to be two very different sizes. You don't want to assume anything when it comes to sizing. Also watch out for European sizing. If the suit is sized by European standards, you will be buying a much higher number than if you were getting American sizing.

As usual, the big name brands such as Vanson and Alpinestars are at the top of the charts for recommendations. Their quality and craftsmanship are hard to beat, but there are lots of other brands out there that are worth looking into as well.

While you don't have to pay a ton of money to get a decent suit, don't skimp on your one piece motorcycle leathers. Purchasing something that is cheap can be disastrous if you are involved in an accident. Like most things in life, with riding suits you get what you pay for. Realistically, you can expect to pay at least a couple hundred dollars for a good suit. Prices go up from there.

Just make sure you find a suit that has a lot of protection. Seams should be double-stitched at the very least, and 1.2mm or more is suggested for the leather. This thickness will protect you if you lay the bike down. Stretch paneling is now a must-have for freedom of motion, and mesh liners for ventilation are becoming more standard.

One-piece motorcycle leathers are a staple in the motorcycle racing world, and they are gaining popularity with other riders. Many people are saying they now wear their one-piece suit whenever they ride. Finding a good suit may take a little while, but it will be well worth the effort.
