Many are fond of the motorcycle because it looks cool. You have to remember though, that it is a big responsibility to own one. It does not end after finishing all the paper works. In fact, your responsibility to your bike is never ending. As long as you want it to deliver, you have to care for it properly.

You also have to keep in mind that you need gears when you own a motorcycle. You need helmet, leather motorcycle chaps, gloves, boots, and jackets. However, these are just added protection. Even if you have the toughest of the gears, you should not be complacent. To ensure safety, you have to check all the key parts of your motorcycle safely.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation provided a checklist for the motorcycle enthusiasts when checking their ride. They call it the T-CLOCS. The acronym stands for the following:

Tires

Check the condition of the tires. Do you need to replace it? Can it still handle the rough roads? Check for debris on it too. Make sure that no object can threaten its condition. The air pressure is very important too. Check the manual from the manufacturers and follow the required pressure. Adjust it as needed. Check the parts of the wheels as well. Clean the bearings and rims. Make sure that the spokes are complete and in place.

Controls

The controls are among the most important parts of the motorcycle. See to it that all the levers are functioning well. They should be able to function right. Check the cables and hoses. Monitor it for damages. See to it that the cables connect everything it should. Since they act like nerves, you have to make sure that they are in good working condition. Lubricate cables when needed. Check the throttle too. It should deliver the level of acceleration you want.

Lights

The lights are necessary for safe riding. Along with the lights, you have to check the different signals as well. This includes the headlamp, tail lamp, and turn signals. In addition, you have to check its source, the battery. Check the connections too. The battery is useless if there are damaged wirings. Check the devices that add visibility. Arrange the mirrors and the reflectors as well.

Oil

You have to be certain that your motorcycle has the needed oil levels. If you have just added oil on your motorcycle, check it again. There are probably leaks that you failed to notice. Check the gauge of the tank. The fuel indicator could be busted and you will end up riding a half-empty oil tank.
Chassis

The chassis of your motorcycle includes all the visible parts. Check the frame, fastener, chain or belt, and its suspension. Aside from cleaning it, check if there are damaged portions. See what you can do to repair or replace it.
Stands

The motorcycle stands are important especially when you park it. Your motorcycle could end up lying on the ground if you do not check the center and side stand.

Now that you checked all the key parts, put your leather motorcycle chaps and the rest of your gears on because you are ready to hit the road.
